Sussex Men's Hoops Earns Victory Over Middlesex

Sussex Men's Basketball protected their home floor in their impressive 86-81 win over Middlesex County College. The Skylander offense was led by point guard Shawn Morgan, who handled the ball from the tip to the final buzzer, finishing with 10 points/5 assists/3 rebounds/1 turnover. Annario Ware (25 points/9 rebounds/3 steals) and Haziz Adeshina (19 points) had huge outputs on both ends of the floor, both attacking and protecting the rim all night. Captains Jayden Battle and Shane Geene let their presence be known around the paint, chipping in 12 points/7 rebounds and 6 points/9 rebounds respectively. Stefen McKinnon brought the energy off the bench with 14 points/4 rebounds.

After a back-and-forth opening several minutes, Sussex trailed 23-19 with 8:10 remaining in the half. By the 6:30 mark, the Skylanders led 31-23 after a quick 14-0 run in less than 2 minutes. The run was started by a Morgan to Adeshina layup, and capped by a pair of threes from Ware and Morgan. The biggest Sussex lead of the half was 13 with one minute left, but a couple Middlesex buckets cut the halftime deficit to 45-36.

Middlesex started the second half with a lot of ball pressure, but the Skylanders held and even extended their lead to 53-40 at the 16:00 mark. Middlesex continued to fight and were eventually within 3 points of Sussex, 71-68 with less than 3 minutes remaining in the game. A putback from Geene and clutch three by Adeshina helped extend the Sussex lead to 80-70 with exactly one minute left. A flurry of Skylander missed free throws and Middlesex threes made the game extremely interesting in the final minute. A foot-on-the-line two from Middlesex made the score 84-81 with just a few seconds remaining, but a pair of free throws from Ware sealed the game.
