Balanced Offense not Enough for Sussex

The Sussex men's lacrosse team came to Mercer County Community College prepared for another battle with the 2019 region champion. A previous meeting with Mercer resulted in a one goal loss. This meeting, filled with untimely turnovers and penalties, was too much for the 12 man Skylander roster to handle, losing 18-10.

Sussex found the back of the net first when freshman Grant Parker fed Matt Sciancalepore for the tally. Both Parker and Sciancalepore were recently named to the 2021 All Region Team.

Mercer jumped all over the Skylanders taking advantage of several turnovers and an extra man opportunity, 4-1. Grant Parker got back into the act scoring his first goal of the game making it 4-2 before Mercer went on another run of their own.

2021 Co-Player of the Year Dom Falleni received a feed from freshman Blake Dipple to score and then tossed an assist to Parker to get the score to 7-4. Mercer would score 3 more times before Kittatinny's Dipple would cut the deficit in half with his first of 3 goals on the day, 10-5.

The slugfest continued in the second half with both teams trading goals in the most physical matchup of the season for the Sussex squad. A terrific individual effort by Parker got Sussex some momentum at 10-6, but Mercer would once again widen the gap with another extra man goal. Dipple's heroics took center stage again when he gathered up a loose ball and dropped the hammer for the Skylanders 7th goal of the day.

Sussex would then receive goals from freshman Joe DeCiglia, Nolan Waldron and Falleni to get the score to 13-10 before Mercer ended the contest with 5 straight.

Freshman Goaltender Collin Miller was credited with 11 saves on the day, while the Sussex offense had an unselfish 9 assists on their 10-goal contest. Dipple finished the afternoon with a team high 5 points.

Sussex will travel to Pennsylvania on Monday May 3rd to play Del Tech for the 2021 Region XIX Championship--and an opportunity to compete in the NJCAA tournament in year one of sanctioned play.
