Illenye Named as Head Coach for Men's Soccer
Coach Joseph Illenye enters his role at Sussex County Community College with more than 22 years of coaching experience across the youth, high school, and collegiate levels. A lifelong student of the game, he is grateful for the opportunity to lead and serve the Sussex Men's Soccer program and is committed to building a culture rooted in effort, accountability, and genuine care for student-athletes.
Illenye played varsity soccer at Boonton High School and competed in track and field at William Paterson University and Bloomsburg University. He has coached extensively in Morris County and beyond, serving as a varsity assistant coach at Boonton High School, Pequannock High School, Morristown Beard School, and Parsippany High School. At the collegiate level, he has held assistant men's soccer coaching positions at Berkeley College (NJ), Drew University, and West Virginia University, and previously served as the Head Men's Soccer Coach at Passaic County Community College.
In addition to his soccer background, Illenye brings experience as a physical education teacher for five years and personal trainer for thirteen years, reinforcing his belief in long-term athlete development, healthy habits, and leadership through sport. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from East Stroudsburg University and a Master of Science in Athletic Coaching Education from West Virginia University.
Coach Illenye resides in Rockaway Township, New Jersey with his wife, Murphy, and their daughter. He is also a proud supporter of New York City FC (MLS).
