2019 Softball Recap

Your Lady Skylanders finished out their hard fought season last week splitting their 3 game series in the semi-finals with Cumberland CC. Sussex fell in game 3 against the Dukes to hang up their cleats and their 2019 season. 


Over all, this Sussex family finished 18-15 throughout 31 games. They totaled up 239 runs across the plate with a team batting average of .386%. They added 6 homeruns to that mix and cracked a team slugging percentage of .476%. Freshman DH/2B Amanda Ross led the skylanders with an impressive .479% batting average and a .505% on base percentage with 30 RBI's in the cleanup position. Stud 3rd basemen Amanda Maxwell shortly trailed Ross with a .430% batting average and .494% on base. Maxwell also led the team in doubles with 11 shots to the fence. Right Fielder and Pitcher Brianne Willis also rallied up a .430% batting average with a .460% on base. Rebecca Riley was the starting pitcher for the 2019 season as she continued to prove herself in the circle and at the plate. Riley had a 4.98 ERA with 13 wins under her belt. She also hit for a .326%. Star first basemen Nicole Matlock continued to strive for success as she had a total of 139 put outs in the field with only 1 defensive error giving her a .993% fielding percentage. Matlock also had 6 doubles punching her average to .386%. Left Fielder, Kathryn Szatkiewicz ended her season with a .348%. She cracked the only grand-slam of the season (+1HR) giving her 22 RBI's in the #9 spot in the lineup. She also led the team in stolen bases with 14. sophmore, 2B Taylor Thieme also ended her season with a .407% in the batters box. She held a consistent .475% slugging percentage. Sophmore Pitcher Peyton Smith - the first international softball student athelte at SCCC - also helped the Sussex on the mound as a close out pitcher. 


Heather Sutton - .394% AVG with a .468% OB

Gianna Santiago - .333% AVG with a .462% OB

Riley Delesky - .326% AVG with a .396% OB

Madison Stires - .388% AVG with a .450% OB - in the leadoff spot
