Spencer Stewart qualifies for nationals

Spencer Stewart wins the Gulf Atlantic District tournament and qualifies for nationals. This makes Spencer the first ever district champion in Sussex Wrestling history! Spencer received the first seed based on his performance this year. He got a bye first round then in the semis he won by injury default and in the finals again won by injury default. Coach Burdge has this to say " In my twenty plus years of wrestling I've never seen someone win a national qualifier and not wrestle a match. We were both disappointed because he has been putting a lot of work into the room and we were excited to show it paid off on the mat today. We came to wrestle today and were excited about getting him as many matches as possible. Spencer told me he wanted to earn his way to nationals and didn't want it handed to him. I had to explain to him that he did earn his way by earning the first seed during the season and setting him up for a good spot here. Look forward to seeing his work on the mat March 5th when we travel to Iowa for a chance to win a national championship.
