Sussex baseball on Saturday (April 6th), played a home Region double header against Del-Tech Owens CC. Sussex won both games by a score of 1-0 in game 1, and 11-10 in game 2. Game 1 was led by Nairu Komatsu's (Japan) brilliant complete game, which was a 2 hit shutout. In game 2, Sussex trailed 7-3 in the bottom of the 4th inning. Sussex rallied to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning and score 8 runs to secure a 6-2 region record. That is the 3rd region DH sweep this season for the Skylanders.
Sunday (April 7th), Sussex continued its hot streak when they swept Monroe College. In a game where runs were not a problem for the Skylanders, Sussex won by a score of 15-5 with Gustavo Souza (Brazil) earning the win, striking out 6 in 4 innings and only allowing 4 hits. Game 2 was led by another Sussex pitcher, Anthony Melillo, who earned the win on the bump going 5 strong innings and giving up only 3 hits, while striking out seven batters. Gianni John Pereira came in relief to lock up the final two scoreless innings to secure the 9-3 win for the Skylanders.
Sussex improved its overall record to 13-13 and Region record of 6-2. Next up is Sullivan CC, Tuesday April 10th at Skylands Stadium with a 4pm start time.
